Protection of shorelines of rivers, lakes and seas is provided through the use of gabions (stone-filled wire mesh baskets) and reinforced soil. Such structures may replace traditional steel or ferroconcrete reinforcement, and their aesthetic qualities make them easily adaptable to the existing surrounding. They do not hamper underground water flow and therefore prevent water clogging; moreover, they diffuse the surging energy
of the surface water.

• Non-harmful technology that does not require large numbers of machinery
  or equipment, which allows for minimising the noise level or dust emission during projects
• Gabion structures are easily dismountable
• Particularly recommended in nature preservation areas (landscape parks, cliffs, silent zones etc.)
